Cultural Event 1: Destinations
So, today was our Destinations trip to the Denver Art Museum. And let's just say... It was incredibly fun! We had the opportunity to take pictures as well as to view them, so it worked out rather well. I took plenty of pictures, and quite a few of them turned out alright. And, instead of posting a zillion pictures here, like the last post, I'm posted them all to flickr and have included a link here to them all. This picture is not exactly my favorite of the bunch, but I think it sums up Denver pretty well.
As a cultural experience, this little expedition fits the classic description of such rather well. It was a trip to an art museum (how much more cultural can you get?) and it left a profound impression on me. I had never really seen a specific photographic exhibition in a museum before, so this was a first for me. I loved the ability to see such unique, beautiful interpretations of the world all gathered together in one place, and I enjoyed experiencing the work of artists I had never heard of before. I appreciated some of the photography, but I also disliked some of it, as well. Some of the photography struck me as downright amateur, but perhaps that was my lack of cultural experience speaking. Either way, to see work from greats such as Ansel Adams and Andre Kertesz was a truly cultural experience, and it is definitely one that I will not soon forget.
