Cultural Event 2: DU Hockey

My family and I have been coming to DU Hockey games for quite a few years now. I originally "resisted" becoming a fan of DU because I had always assumed that I would go to CSU, and therefore, in my mind, I thought that I shouldn't begin to identify with the University of Denver when it would not end up being my college.

Yet here I am as a Denver Pioneer in 2010! It's funny how things work out sometimes. More often than not, a person's expectations in life take on a life of their own--there's no telling what will happen! Either way, in terms of hockey, I had no idea how much more fun the student section could be compared to where our other seats are (in the opposing team section.)

It is truly a quintessential DU cultural experience. Few other places do students show such spirit, pride and excitement for our alma mater. We all get into the game, cheer and generally have fun. I love to watch the crowd's reactions to ups and downs throughout the game as well as the overwhelming feeling of being one part of the whole as a member of the crowd. It's certainly an entirely different culture here in college than in high school (in more ways than one), though hockey's loud, obnoxious and occasionally tasteless cheering shows one of the most distinct differences.

Overall, it was an entirely different culture within the ranks of the student fans, and I thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures during the game.
